A Beechview man pleaded guilty today to importing 3 kilograms of the party drug methylone.

Patrick Taylor, 33, imported the stimulant, similar to MDMA, from 2011 on, assistant U.S. attorney Troy Rivetti said.

In February, Mr. Taylor emailed his Chinese supplier asking for 3 kilograms of the drug, for which he paid $5,700. In March, a Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Postal Inspection Service review of suspect parcels detected 1,556 grams of the drug in a package sent to Mr. Taylor, but with a fake name as the addressee.

Mr. Rivetti said Mr. Taylor was selling the drug.

Mr. Taylor pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession of the drug. He faces sentencing May 21.

He and his attorney, Charles Porter Jr., declined comment.
