Pittsburgh police charged a man Wednesday with the assault and rape of a woman at his South Side apartment.
David L. Baynes, 47, also was charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements, as he was previously convicted of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, according to court documents.
A woman told police she went Monday to Baynes' apartment in the 2000 block of Sarah Street after she was kicked out of a program when she tested positive for drugs and had nowhere to go, police wrote in a criminal complaint.
She told police she resisted as he asked her to perform sex acts on him Tuesday. As she was gathering her belongings to leave, she told police, Baynes assaulted and raped her.
The woman was able to escape when she asked to use the bathroom near the stairwell outside his apartment and ran into the bar downstairs to call police.
