Liberty Tunnel reopened after reports of natural gas odor

Emergency officials briefly closed the Liberty Tunnel both inbound and outbound to investigate reports of a strong natural gas odor inside the tunnel.

At about 4:40 p.m., multiple callers reported a strong natural gas smell in the tunnel, prompting firefighters to investigate, an Allegheny County dispatch supervisor said.

The tunnel was later reopened and officials are still investigating.
