The Pittsburgh Parking Authority has agreed to repay nearly $30,000 to those who erroneously paid to park Nov. 30, a Saturday when street parking was supposed to be free citywide to boost small businesses.

In an agreement with Mayor-elect Bill Peduto, who had sponsored the “Small Business Saturday” legislation approved by Pittsburgh City Council, the authority will automatically reverse all of the $24,426 in credit card payments made at parking kiosks that day and will repay the $5,138 paid in cash to those who have receipts or license plate numbers. Mr. Peduto’s transition team announced the agreement Tuesday.

The authority was supposed to program its new parking kiosks to refuse payments the Saturday after Thanksgiving but did not do so.

Customers who paid in cash can request refunds by calling the authority at 412-560-7275.
