A 14-year-old boy was hit in the head several times with a gun when two people broke into his Manchester home while a third stood as lookout, Pittsburgh police said.

Officers from the police bureau's Zone 1 station went to a home in the 1000 block of Sheffield Street about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday after a woman heard someone pounding on her door and called 911, Lt. Shirley Sloan said.

Inside the home were the woman, her 14-year-old son and her 9-year-old son.

Lt. Sloan said the woman and her teenage son ran to the front door and tried to keep keep it shut. Two people forced their way in while the third acted as a look-out, she said.

The intruders, who wore white ski masks and hoodies, ran away before police arrived.

"Right now, we really don't have any leads on why this family was chosen," the lieutenant said.

Police asked anyone with information to call the Zone 1 station at 412-323-7201 or the robbery squad at 412-323-7151.
