High temperatures, humidity, prompt Pittsburgh to open cooling centers

With high temperatures and humidity expected today and Tuesday, Pittsburgh will open its for cooling centers for senior citizens from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The centers are in Greenfield, 745 Greenfield Ave.; Homewood, 7321 Frankstown Ave.; Market House, 12th and Bingham streets, South Side; and Sheraden, 720 Sherwood Ave.

In addition, the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill, 5738 Forbes Ave., will remain open until 9 p.m. for senior citizens who need relief from heat.

The centers are open to residents 60 and older and provide activities and refreshments.
