The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim of a Saturday hit-and-run as 40-year-old Chad Vida of Etna.

A spokesman for the office said reports indicate that Mr. Vida had been involved in a verbal altercation with the driver of the vehicle that struck him.

That incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of Liberty Avenue near the Bloomfield Bridge. The Pittsburgh Police homicide and collision investigation units are investigating.

Police said Mr. Vida was found lying in the outbound lanes of Liberty Avenue. Though he was treated at the scene by paramedics, he was pronounced dead at 1:23 p.m. at a local hospital.

Police said the driver of the vehicle that left the scene called 911 from a location near the accident scene. The driver was interviewed by detectives, according to a news release issued by police. No arrests had been made as of Saturday night. Police could not be reached this morning.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the homicide unit at 412-323-7161.
