A 28-year-old woman was killed Thursday in a Beltzhoover double shooting that also injured another man.

Tiona Jackson, a nurse and mother of six, suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the chest, torso and extremities, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:48 a.m.

About 10 minutes earlier, officers from the city's Zone 3 station had responded to a call at Vincent Street, near the intersection with East Warrington Avenue.

There, they found a 32-year-old man and Ms. Jackson lying unresponsive in the street, according to a news release from police spokeswoman Diane Richard.

The man with her, who is from Penn Hills, was transported to UPMC Mercy in critical condition. Police, who didn't release his identity, described his condition Thursday morning as stable.

He also had been shot multiple times, police said.

Ms. Jackson was the mother of two boys and four girls, said her sister, Litisha Underwood.

"She was a lovable, great person," Ms. Underwood said. "I'm just in shock. Her -- of all people. It didn't have to happen to her."

Ms. Jackson and her companion had left Red's Ringside Cafe on East Warrington and were walking to their car when shots were fired, KDKA-TV reported.

No one at the bar could be reached for comment Thursday.

Ms. Jackson's mother, Rhonda Sowell, said her daughter worked hard to provide for her children.

"She was a good girl," she told KDKA. "She didn't have a criminal background. She wasn't into the streets. She wasn't into the nonsense. She worked all the time."

One witness noticed an older-model tan or gold mid-sized sedan, possibly a Pontiac Grand Prix, flee the scene, police said.

The city homicide squad is investigating.

Correction, posted March 5, 2013: Red's Ringside Cafe in Beltzhoover has no telephone, according to owner William Davison. An earlier version of this story incorrectly said a telephone there had been disconnected.
