The night his bar was damaged in a fire, the owner of Doug's Den in Carrick was arrested at the scene of the blaze.

Police said the "unruly behavior" of Douglas Steck, 50, of Brentwood made the scene "unsafe" Sunday night.

Mr. Steck was warned multiple times by emergency personnel and fire responders that he could not enter his business at 2301 Brownsville Road until fire fighting and the investigation were completed and the building was deemed safe to enter, police said.

Mr. Steck "verbally assaulted" responders, yelling and swearing at them, and smelled like alcohol, police said.

A detective warned him that his conduct would not be tolerated, police said. The detective said he took into account that Mr. Steck was dealing with the "traumatic experience of having his business damaged."

After approaching the same detective in an "aggressive" manner, he was arrested, police said, but resisted being taken into custody and being handcuffed. He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail and later released.

Mr. Steck was charged with obstructing emergency services, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and pubic drunkenness.
