Zone 1 officers find drugs, illegal weapons in home

Five people are facing charges after police searched a Fineview home Monday and found 62 bags of heroin and illegal weapons.

Plainclothes officers obtained a search warrant to enter a home in the 1800 block of Belleau Drive after observing a man walk into the residence to purchase heroin around 5 p.m. Police allege that Nicholas Fuchs, 24 of Munhall, who was charged with possession of a controlled substance, turned over the bag of heroin he bought inside the house when approached by police.

Police found four adults inside the home and two bundles of heroin on top of a dresser in a room where a small child was in bed. Officers also discovered 62 bags of heroin, a 9 mm loaded pistol with a serial number removed, a .38 revolver with five rounds and $2,107 in cash.

Police arrested Samuel Pegues, 20 of the North Side, Deandre Farrington, 18 of East Liberty, Jamal Johnson, 21 of the North Side, and Nia Williams, 20 of the North Side, on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, altering or obliterating marks of identification, firearms not to be carried without a license and tampering or fabricating physical evidence.

Mr. Pegues and Mr. Farrington were also charged with owning firearms as felons. Mr. Johnson and Ms. Williams face an additional charge of endangering the welfare of a child. All four individuals were arraigned today, unable to post bail and held in Allegheny County Jail.

Mr. Fuchs was charged through a summons and is expected to appear at a preliminary hearing March 26.
