The tiny Fancourt Bridge in Downtown Pittsburgh, little known until its closure caused large traffic problems, will reopen Friday afternoon, PennDOT announced today.

The bridge carries the ramp from westbound Fort Duquesne Boulevard over the 10th Street Bypass to ramps that connect with the Fort Pitt Bridge and Commonwealth Place. It was closed for a planned replacement project on Sept. 27.

Also closed then were the eastbound lanes of the 10th Street Bypass. Ramps from the inbound Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne bridges to the bypass were shut down and motorists detoured to Fort Duquesne Boulevard to reach the convention center area and Strip District. The closed lane on the inbound lower deck of the Fort Duquesne Bridge caused backups during morning rush hours.

The bridge is expected to open by late afternoon or early evening Friday, with the bypass ramps opening later that night.
