The Fort Pitt Museum will offer free admission on Saturday and Sunday for all active and retired military personnel in honor of Veterans Day. The museum, which is part of the Heinz History Center system, is located at Pittsburgh's Point State Park.
During both days, colonial re-enactors will demonstrate musket loading and firing and help visitors learn what life was like for soldiers stationed at Fort Pitt during the 18th century.
Visitors also will be able to create special "thank you cards" for local veterans that will be shipped to Pittsburgh-area VA hospitals. Working in partnership with Operation Troop Appreciation, the museum will host a donation drive seeking items which will be sent to service members. Acceptable donations include toothpaste, deodorant, batteries and pre-packaged foods. A complete list of appropriate items can be viewed at www.heinzhistorycenter.org. Click on Fort Pitt Museum and then select "Events."
Regular admission to the museum is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-17, and free for History Center members.neigh_city
