Pittsburgh police investigating drug complaints in Carrick Friday night arrested a suspected drug dealer who they said was preparing to sell a large amount of heroin.

Solomon Givens, 44, of Mount Oliver, was jailed on drug, weapons and other charges after police said they found his Honda parked against the flow of traffic on Mount Joseph Street.

Police smelled the odor of marijuana when they rode by and could see two partially smoked blunts inside the car. They arrested Mr. Givens and later searched his vehicle, where they found 800 empty stamp bags of heroin, suggesting he was readying to deal the drug, police said. A stamp bag is worth about $10 on the street.

Also in the Honda was $10,000 in cash, a switch blade and an expandable baton, items for which received weapons charges.

Officers also recovered 27 bags on Mr. Givens' person while searching him at the Allegheny County Jail.

Among the charges filed against him were drug possession with intent to deliver, possession of an offensive weapon and a pair of parking violations.
