A 4-year-old girl has died after an old, heavy television fell on her while she was playing with her siblings in a Northview Heights home.

Pittsburgh police Lt. Dan Herrmann said Shaniya Darby-Sims, her older brother and another sibling were playing in a room on the second floor of a home in the 700 block of Mount Pleasant Road. The 23-inch front-heavy TV fell from a dresser and hit Shaniya at about 8:30 p.m.

The girl's mother ran upstairs and began CPR when she saw she wasn't breathing. Police continued CPR when they arrived and medics eventually took the girl to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Detectives continue to investigate, but police suspect at this stage that it was an accident.
