UPMC has announced a $2 million grant to the Heinz History Center, marking one of the largest gifts in the museum's history.

The funds will support educational programs and operations at the Strip District museum, where the library and archives will be renamed for Thomas and Katherine Detre.

Dr. Detre, who died last year, was renowned psychiatrist and academic leader who helped found UPMC.

"It is altogether fitting that Pittsburgh's oldest and most complete historical archive will bear the names of such worthy honorees as Thomas and Katherine Detre," stated Andy Masich, the history center's president and CEO. "UPMC's generous grant will help support the history center and library and archives for generations to come."
