Virginia Montanez, the popular blogger formerly known as PittGirl, says she was fired yesterday morning, a day after she unveiled her identity in a new blog, thatschurch.com.

She had worked as the marketing director for NEED, a Pittsburgh-based college access program, for six years.

From 2005 to 2008, she blogged anonymously on the Burgh Blog, drawing a large fan base with her acerbic wit as she commented on everything from the mayor's office to pigeons. Her identity had been the topic of wide speculation, particularly after she suddenly shut down her blog in November after she said her identity had been compromised.

In a statement she released yesterday on Twitter, she said, "Thanks so much for all the e-mails over the last however many hours. I am okay. I have no job. But I am okay. I promise. Regrouping."

The president of NEED was not immediately available for comment.
