A Crafton social services agency announced yesterday the creation of a new program aiming to help youths transition to adulthood.

Launched by Circle C Youth and Family Services, the "R U Ready?" program will help 16- to 22-year-olds who are outgrowing the welfare program but are not prepared for adult responsibilities, the agency said in a news release. The Allegheny County Children, Youth and Family Services will refer participants to the program.

The 30 youths already enrolled in the program will receive extra help with continued education, vocational training and general life skills. Of the 30 in the program, about half are in foster care, about a quarter live on their own and the other quarter live with their parents, the agency said.

Circle C said it hopes to enroll 80 young adults in the program during the next year.
