The Allegheny River spilled its banks in Armstrong County early this morning due to an ice jam that resulted from warming temperatures.

An emergency dispatcher for Armstrong County said word was received at 3:40 a.m. today indicating that the frozen surface of the river had begun thawing, resulting in an ice jam that caused some flooding in Perry, near East Brady. There was no indication that any homes were damaged or that anyone was injured. The dispatcher said the riverbank area that was experiencing the flooding is sparsely populated with hunting camps.

The jam cleared by about 7 a.m. but emergency responders will continue to monitor the area for trouble, the dispatcher said.
