Paul Trilli is the new commissioner from Ross Township’s Seventh Ward.

The township’s vacancy board appointed Mr. Trilli in a special meeting Friday by a 4-0-1 vote with four members absent.

Three township commissioners -- David Mikec, Grant Montgomery and Grace Stanko -- as well as George Tunney, vacancy board chairman, cast votes for Mr. Trilli. Commissioner Lana Mazur abstained.

The vacancy board consists of eight commissioners and Mr. Tunney, and meet when the board of commissioners is unable to fill a vacancy. Commissioners deadlocked 4-4 Monday on an appointment to fill the unexpired term of Gerald O’Brien, who was elected tax collector.

Commissioners Dan DeMarco, Chris Eyster, Peter Ferraro and John Sponcer, all of whom supported Patrick Mullin for the position, boycotted the vacancy board meeting. The four wanted the matter to be decided in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, which would have occurred had the vacancy board been unable to agree on a candidate.
