A McKees Rocks man is being held in Michigan pending extradition on charges that he killed a man inside an East Allegheny bar.
Wesley Richards, 35, faces one count of homicide and a gun violation in connection with the Oct. 18 death of 46-year-old Donald Lowry inside JR’s Bar on East Ohio Street.
Members of a U.S. Marshals fugitive task force arrested Richards Tuesday afternoon in Detroit.
“He initially did not own up to his true identity,” but when marshals confronted him with a photograph, he gave up, said Michael Baughman, chief deputy of the Western Pennsylvania office of the marshals service.
He said the task force received a tip that Richards might have an associate in Detroit.
Pittsburgh police said the shooting, about 1 a.m. Oct. 18, occurred after Mr. Lowry and Richards “exchanged words.”
Police said a security guard tried to stop Richards but a second man — for whom police are still searching — struck him with a beer bottle.
Richards is being held in the Wayne County Jail in Michigan. Online court records show he had pleaded guilty in the past to numerous drug, gun and fraud charges.
