A Lawrence County man was jailed Saturday on a variety of charges, including a felony count of assault, in connection with a domestic dispute.
State police at New Castle said Carl Richard Antoniazzi, 31, of Edinburg, began "punching and kicking" Melissa Riley, 34, of Scott Township, near New Castle, at about 8 a.m. Saturday at her home. Police said the assault continued "all day," with Mr. Antoniazzi taking her clothing, so she could not leave. Police said he pointed a gun at her head, held a screwdriver to her throat, and threatened to stab her - all in front of their daughters, ages 11 and 7.
Ms. Riley was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian. Police said she suffered a punctured lung, fractured ribs, and numerous bruises.
Mr. Antoniazzi was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment.
The children were placed in foster care.
