One man was killed and another injured badly in a gas well explosion around noon today near the town of Dry Tavern in Greene County, state police said.
Police said 26-year-old Rock Doman died of massive blunt force trauma while capping the well. Authorities say gas companies have been drilling in the township for coal bed methane.
Twenty-five-year-old Jerry Fisher was injured and flown by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.V. His condition is unknown.
The gas well owned by Atlas America Inc. is located off Goslin Road in Jefferson Township, about 14 miles east of Waynesburg. The well is one of three gas wells in the immediate area owned by the Philadelphia-based gas well development company.
