Traffic on inbound Route 28 will have a new pattern after the 31st Street Bridge starting Wednesday morning, weather permitting, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.
Starting at 5 a.m., the current lane split will be removed and traffic shifted onto side-by-side lanes along a newly built wall. The right lane will continue to be an exit-only lane to East Ohio Street. Traffic remaining on Route 28, including those headed for ramps to Interstates 579 and 279, will stay in the left lane.
During work to change the pattern from 8 p.m. today to 5 a.m. Wednesday, the left inbound lane will be closed and all traffic will exit to East Ohio Street.
The new pattern will remain in effect for about a month, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said. When the next change is made, there will be two inbound lanes for through traffic and a separate exit lane for East Ohio. The overall construction project is scheduled for completion in late November.
