YWCA hosts tribute to women leaders at Westin Convention Center

#BreaktheGlassCeiling: Each year this prestigious luncheon honors seven local women for their contributions in leadership. “Our mission is to empower women and eliminate racism so that we can create more opportunities for women in all walks of life,” said board president Marsha Jones. “Empowering women and ending racism are intersectional, and we can’t do one without the other,” added Maggie Jensen, executive director of the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh.
This year’s honorees: Aradhna M. Oliphant, president and CEO, Leadership Pittsburgh Inc.; Diana A. Bucco, vice president, Buhl Foundation; Tami Dixon, producing artistic director, Bricolage Production Company; Irene Hanson Frieze, professor, University of Pittsburgh; Mary C. Burke, founder and executive director, Project to End Human Trafficking, and professor of psychology, Carlow University; Cheryl Begandy, director, education, outreach and training, Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center; and Yasmin Shaheed, chief administrative officer, Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh.
#QuotableMoment: “We need to mentor women and raise awareness of women’s leadership potential, creating more avenues to move us all forward,” said Debra Caplan.
