Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre kicks off season at Hartwood Acres

The Place: Hartwood Acres, Aug. 17.

The Purpose: To kick off the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s 45th season for 2014-15 and to offer audiences the beauty of ballet with a free show.

The Party: “Ballet Under the Stars” offered a picnic-style dinner of ribs and potato salad, wine and beer, under the VIP tent for those wanting to mingle with dancers and directors before the performance. The $75 ticket went to support the ballet. Other guests set up their own picnics in front of the stage.

The Performance: A mixed repertoire of wonderfully executed spins, leaps and pointe work. The evening ended with “Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes,” choreographed by Mark Morris.

The People: PBT Executive Director Harris Ferris with Janet, Peggy and Steve McKnight, Tim McVay and David Bush, Larry Leahy, Dr. Helene Finegold, Carol Shriber and Chuck Snyder and Sandi and Bernie Pinsker.
