Amy Stewart, author of "The Drunken Botanist: The Plants That Create the World's Great Drinks," comes to town to help raise funds for the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden.

Party with plants: On Thursday at the Westin in Downtown Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden (which opened in Oakdale on Aug. 4) hosted Ms. Stewart to explain how plants and grains become a part of fun and fancy cocktails. "This is about garden to glass. I'm so impressed by how the people of Pittsburgh really use local product. It's a wonderful thing to see," said Ms. Stewart as she clinked glasses with botanic garden president Greg Nace and director of development Kitty Vagley before signing copies of her book.

Signature drink: Wigle Whiskey created a signature drink just for the event. Try it yourself (it was refreshing!):

Spring Garden

1.25 oz. Ginever (Wigle's locally made gin)

3 oz. elderflower lemonade

Top with rosemary lavender bitters

Garnish with lemon wedge
