The Man: The Rev. James Simms of St. Paul Baptist Church, North Point Breeze.

The Moment: Rev. Simms was honored with a retirement gala at the Wyndham Grand, Downtown, for his 40 years of service to the church. Nearly 300 friends, fans and family came to celebrate Saturday night. Music by Bashir Ansari and Trio, a family tribute led by his daughter Rachel Couch, a reading by his granddaughter Mimi Washington and remarks by his wife Jacqueline made it a family affair.

The Message: "The 40 years have been fervent in spirit serving the Lord."

The Admirers: The Rev. Darryl Canady, Valerie McDonald Roberts, the Rev. Hubert Hutcherson, Dr. Cyril Wecht, Raymond and Eboni Simms Talley, Josephine Braun, Cherrita Allen, Garland Walker, the Rev. Lacy Richardson, Rona and Cyndi Yates, Jayne Rhodes and Herman Reid.
