Imagination Untamed: Zoo Gala 2014

The Place: The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium.

The Party: The excitement began Friday night as 700 glam partygoers were greeted at the gates by a sloth, a baby snow leopard and other “untamed” animals. After guests ascended the escalators, they enjoyed food and drinks from around the city and entertainment by the Camara Drum Dance & Sogbety Diomande. VIPs got to feed grapes to Xia the red panda, as Dr. Terry Krysinski and board member Ed Goncz did, or offer lettuce to a giraffe named Lois. She nibbled from Dedee Wilson’s hand and posed for pictures before the party animals headed to the dance floor.

The Purpose: The event, which raised more than $500,000, will help launch Wildlife Legacy, a major expansion effort of the zoo, and will highlight education, responsibility and endangered species, said Jaime Szoszorek, director of marketing.

#SEEN: Honorary chair Andrea Carelli and Michael Toretti, Paul Gitnik and Gene Svrcek, Marlon Ferguson, Jackie Dixon, Julie and Ryan Johnson, Maris Bondi, Amanda Beyer and Jordan Beyer (#SEENchic), Brent Haberstroh and Bria Bennie (in BCBG), Councilman Dan Gilman with fiancee Amanda Kennedy, Councilman Corey O’ Connor, Peggy McKnight, Linda Bailey and Mark Fairhead, Lisa Freeman, Tad Scheri, and Andrew and Julie Jones (in Calvin Klein and BCBG, respectively, #SEENCutestCouple) “One of our very first dates was at the zoo ... and now we are married. This place brings back wonderful memories,” said Mrs. Jones.
