When and where: Thursday at the Grey Box Theatre, Lawrenceville.
The cause: The Pittsburgh division of Dress for Success provides women with the confidence and clothes to make it in the workforce. The party also celebrated the rise of Lawrenceville with a panel discussion of women from the neighborhood, music, hors d’oeuvres and mingling. Allegheny County Councilman Tom Baker declared Thursday “Dress for Success Pittsburgh, Women Rock” day.
Woman of the hour: Monica Mendez, who became Dress for Success Pittsburgh’s executive director in March, spoke of her previous work in Florida with women who had been victims of violence. She said she hopes to do more for women than help them get dressed for work; she pledged to work against violence and poverty issues affecting them and their families. “It’s not just about suiting. It’s about empowerment,” she said.
Standout sweet treat: Cream-filled, colorful mini cupcakes by Bella Christie.
SEEN: Jodie Tabano, Maya Henry, Ashley Brandolph, Lauren Byrne, Wendy Maletta, Phyllis Nettles, Wayne and Erroline Williams and Gina Desko.
