Troy and Theodora Polamalu are committed to a number of causes in the Pittsburgh region, and their legendary generosity was in evidence Thursday at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Oakland.
More than 400 guests turned out for Tackle Poverty With the Polamalus, a benefit for FOCUS North America, which helps the working poor and homeless in Pittsburgh.
The national director of FOCUS, Nick Chakos, is based in Pittsburgh, and one of its projects is opening a free health clinic in the Hill District with a grant from UPMC. More than 8,000 people received assistance in 2013 from FOCUS, Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve.".
The event was chaired by Cynthia Raftis, and Larry Richert served as auctioneer. Guests included Metropolitan Savas and local director Paul Abernathy.
