Runners can celebrate Halloween in costume and pick up candy and a T-shirt in the fifth annual Oxford Athletic Club Freaky 5K race or the third annual Massage Envy Haunted Hill 10K race, both at North Park the morning of Oct. 26.

The exercise events organized by the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon also include the Petrifying Pet walk for pet animals and their owners as well as the Trick-or-Treat Trot, a new one-mile fun run for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The Freaky 5K, $25 in advance or $30 the day of the race, will begin at 10 a.m. at the North Park Ice Rink, and take runners past the boathouse and around the tennis courts before finishing back near the ice rink.

The Haunted Hill 10K, which also starts at 10 a.m. near the rink, will go up North Ridge Lane and around the baseball fields before winding around the boathouse and tennis courts and finishing back near the ice rink. The fee is $30 in advance or $35 the day of the race.

The kids' Trick-or-Treat Trot begins at 9:30 a.m. near the ice rink. The fee is $15 in advance or $20 that day.

The Petrifying Pet Walk, which starts at 9 a.m., is a half-mile course along Pearce Mill Road that finishes back near the ice rink. The fee is $15 per pet in advance or $20 per pet that day. Each additional pet is $5.

More than 1,000 people already have registered for the 5K and 10K races, and more than 70 pets have been registered for the Pet Walk, the only course in which pets are permitted.

The runners will receive numbered bibs to wear in their races. After the events, participants are invited to a party, where they will receive a race shirt and a goody bag. The party also includes free food and drinks as well as Halloween-themed activities such as a scavenger hunt. Awards for the top finishers, best costumes, cutest pet and best pet costume will be given out.

Runners' check-in and race day registration begins at 8 a.m. at the ice rink. Early arrival is recommended due to traffic delays and congestion; road closures will begin at 9:15 a.m.
