Ligonier Home Tour
A former hospital that has been turned into a boutique hotel and cafe is one of five stops on the 10th anniversary Ligonier Home Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 28.
Tickets, $25 each if purchased by June 22, are available online at www.LigonierHomeTour.org, by calling the Lincoln Highway Experience museum at 724-879-4241 or by sending a check for $25 for each ticket (before June 23) made out to: LHHC, 3435 Route 30 East, Latrobe, PA 15650. After June 22, tickets cost $30 at at the Lincoln Highway Experience museum, 3435 Route 30 East, near the Kingston Dam.
The self-guided tour begins with registration on June 28 in the parking lot at Citizens Bank in Ligonier, across the street from the Town Hall. Parking is available on the street and in the bank parking lot. Public restrooms are in the Town Hall courtyard. Proceeds benefit the Ligonier Valley Historical Society,Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor.
Oster wins video award
Doug Oster, the Post-Gazette’s Backyard Gardener columnist, has again won a silver award in the Garden Writers Association Media Awards Program.
Over the past five years, Mr. Oster has won five silver awards and one gold award for his weekly “Digging With Doug” garden videos. Last year, he won the gold award, the highest given by the association, competing in a category against national broadcast media. As a silver award winner, he is again in the running for the gold award to be given at the association’s awards banquet in Pittsburgh on Aug. 11.
Niki Jabbour to speak
Nationally renowned garden designer, writer and lecturer Niki Jabbour will present a special Summer Short Course at Botany Hall in Oakland from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 10.
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and Penn State Extension are sponsoring the event, which includes coffee, a catered lunch and all lectures. The cost is $85 per person before June 15 and $95 after. A limited number of spots are open to university students for $50.
