Rain water garden

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Burgh Bees and more than 50 volunteers from all over the city will install a rain water garden at the Homewood Apiary, 6900 Susquehanna St. More volunteers are welcome. The project, which is across from East End Brewery off North Dallas Street, is funded by the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania and the EQT Foundation.

West End antique fair

An antique fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in Village Square Park, 419 S. Main St., West End (15220). Information: www.west-end-village.com or 412-922-2740.

Herbal Harvest

The Western Pennsylvania Unit of the Herb Society of America will sponsor a Herbal Harvest from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 27 at Old Economy Village in Ambridge.

Unit members Ruth Rouleau and Patricia Leiphart will discuss techniques for harvesting, preserving and winterizing herbs. Attendees then choose from one of two workshops where they will use herbs and spices in cookery and craft projects.

In the herbal craft workshop, Andrea Jackson and Peggy Trevanion will give tips on effective uses for herbs in the home. Participants will blend their own Lemon Rose Bath Vinegar and Moth Chaser Potpourri Sachets.

In the cooking workshop, Betsy Hollweck and Nancy Hanst will show how to make aromatic tea rubs to use on meats, vegetables and tofu. Tidbits of these foods will be tasted.

At the Herbal Market, there will be handcrafted items, ornaments, dried herbs, potpourris and more. Herbal baked goods also will be for sale.

Admission is $20. Space is limited. Registration is required to select the workshop you wish to attend. Reservations are recommended no later than Oct. 20.
