Fall garden classes on agenda

Master Gardeners of Westmoreland County are offering Fall Garden Wrap-Up workshops from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Penn State Extension office, 214 Donohoe Road in Greensburg (15601).

Cost to attend all hourlong sessions is $5 and advance registration is appreciated by Sept. 12. Call 724-837-1402 for reservations. Walk-ins allowed if space permits. Here are some of the workshops:

• 9 a.m.: "Planting Fall Bulbs for Spring Color" by Carol Chernega.

• 9 a.m.: "The Goodness of Herbal Teas and How to Make Them "by Ellen Marsili, Cindy Conrad and Diane Sobota.

• 10:15 a.m.: "Native Plants in Your Garden" by Ron Patun.

• 11:30 a.m.: "Garlic Is Civilization" by Tim Dixon.

Mexican War Streets house tour

The 44th annual Mexican War Streets House & Garden Tour will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 15. The self-guided tour will include 13 houses and four gardens throughout this historic neighborhood on the North Side.

The tour is sponsored in part by Horn Corp. Builders, Eisler Landscapes, Frank Quinn Construction, Cedar Avenue Giant Eagle and the Allegheny Commons Initiative. Tickets are $18 per person in advance or $20 on the day of the tour at the ticket booth on Monterey Street at West North Avenue. Tickets, information: www.mexicanwarstreets.org.
