Penn State Master Gardeners of Westmoreland County will hold their annual open house of the demonstration gardens from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 19 on the Donohoe Center grounds,214 Donohoe Road, Greensburg (15601). The event will be held rain or shine, and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer garden questions and discuss good gardening practices. Light refreshments will be provided.
The demonstration gardens are free and open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. There is an ornamental grass bed, two annual flower beds, a large perennial bed, a dwarf conifer bed, a garden with more than 100 named varieties of daylilies, a vegetable garden, an herb garden, an old-fashioned garden, a memorial garden, and a composting site with various examples of compost bins. New this year is a four-season bed.
Master Gardeners are also available to assist the public with horticulture questions via its telephone helpline at 724-837-1402.
