Where did the summer go? Gardeners know it goes out in a blaze of annuals and late-blooming perennials. With the colder weather comes the last round of the PG Great Gardens Contest.
Sept. 16 is the deadline for fall/year-round entries in the 11th annual Great Gardens Contest sponsored by the Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. There are three size categories:
• Small -- gardens of 2,000 square feet or less.
• Medium -- between 2,000 square feet and a quarter acre.
• Large -- gardens larger than a quarter acre.
Winners receive a one-year membership to the Botanic Garden of Western Pennsylvania, two tickets to next year's Botanic Garden annual tour and, of course, the bragging rights that come with seeing your garden featured in the Post-Gazette.
