International spots offer alternatives to turkey.
Out of all the food trucks in Pittsburgh, Gus and Yia Yia’s might be the easiest to find. Perched every day in West Park on the North Side, it’s been serving freshly shaved ice balls in a multitude of flavors since before food trucks were cool.
I had always believed that shaved ice was one of the worst desserts, barely edging out a neighbor’s well-intentioned fruit cake. Yet this treat was surprisingly smooth and expertly toed the line between syrupy and watery.
So if you’re on a date, on a lunch break or just in the mood for something simply sweet, stop by Gus and Yia Yia’s.. It may be the best $1 you ever spent.
