Casellula @ Alphabet City is the first dining spot in Pittsburgh to end its no-tipping policy, just 10 months after it opened.
I found La Palapa in its usual spot, at the corner of Penn and Seventh avenues Downtown. Though the truck is tiny, the servers were very friendly and quick, preparing my food in about 5 minutes.
I tried tacos with ground beef and chorizo mixed with rice and a chicken empanada. The chorizo was the best of the three, with tender potatoes mixed into the meat. I also tried a chipotle pork taco and the meat was tender and flavorful. Toppings include pico de gallo, chopped onions and cilantro.
Prices for empanadas, tacos or quesadillas are $3.50 each or three for $10. Jarritos, a Mexican soda, are $2 each and come in mango and pineapple.
