“Young” jackfruit is mostly used as a filling in tacos but also makes its way as a topping on nachos and inside a sandwich.
The Pittsburgh Public Market, in its new space at 2401 Penn Ave. in the Strip District, is launching a "Friends of the Market" program.
You pledge support at different, possibly-tax-deductible amounts -- for $25 (friend level), $50 (partner), $100 (patron) and $250 (business) -- and you get corresponding perks (such as a sticker, tote bag, free meeting-space access, etc.).
You can learn more at the market's first annual tasting event from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31. You get nibbles and sips and music by Broke, Stranded & Ugly.
Tickets ($25 before Jan. 26, $35 after) also get you a year membership in the Friends program, and you'll be listed as a founding member on the wall.
