April showers bring May flowers, but that’s not all. Next month, plenty of fashionable fun will be in full bloom across Pittsburgh.
Here are some ways to welcome spring in style:
Where to mingle: Spring style is in full swing at stylist Bear Brandegee’s Worth New York studio on the 10th floor of the Diamond Building, Downtown. From April 7-14, fresh styles for the season (and summer!) will be on site, and shoppers can browse them with one-on-one styling suggestions from Ms. Brandegee by appointment. From 5-7:30 p.m. April 8, women who work or live Downtown are invited to sip cocktails and pick up personalized style and color advice, plus learn about trend tips for spring and summer. There will be yet another chance for women from across Pittsburgh to shop the latest from Worth New York 1-5 p.m. April 10, when Ms. Brandegee will feature in the studio women behind other fashion/accessory brands and businesses. Space for the events is limited; RSVP is required at firstname.lastname@example.org.
New place to shop:Lawrenceville is about to welcome a new boutique to its already bustling shopping scene. Next weekend, Brambler Boutique, which specializes in childrens’ trendsetting styles for infants through age 6, will open at 3609 Butler St. From 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, the store will hold grand opening festivities with balloon animals, story time and snacks for visitors. Additional business hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays. Information: bramblerboutique.com or search “Brambler Boutique” on Facebook.
What to read: Former Pittsburgher Lesley Ware has been sewing and styling since her mom first taught her when she was a kid. Now others can learn how to sketch their own creations with her new book “My Fab Fashion Style File” (Laurence King Publishing; $19.95). Ms. Ware serves as fashion director at Warehouse Gallery in Brooklyn that she runs with her husband, Kamau. In 2015, she released her first book “Sew Fab: Sewing and Style for Young Fashionistas,” which is filled with colorful fashion illustrations, step-by-step projects and words of style wisdom.
Splurge of the month: The Pittsburgh Pirates’ opening day is just one week away! Lovers of luxury handbags can sport their team spirit with Dooney & Bourke’s MLB-inspired designs. For Pirates fans, there are credit card billfolds ($68), wristlets ($88-$168), cross-body field bags ($298), large domed satchels ($428), carry-all totes ($448) and more — all wallpapered in the team’s logo. Everybody’s talking about ... spray-on nail polish. London-based Nails Inc. made headlines when it announced it would debut this spring Paint Can Polish, a foolproof manicure method that’s applied with a spray can. Nails are prepped with a base coat and completed with a top coat, while excess spray polish on fingers can be wiped away. It lasts about the same amount of time as traditional nail polish (not gel). Now, other brands like China Glaze are following suit with their own takes on the spray polish concept. Plus, everyone from beauty bloggers to Buzzfeed is, well, buzzing about it. (Back in January, even Stylebook named this a beauty trend worth trying in 2016.)
