Macy's to remain open for 48 hours for last-minute shoppers: Struggling to find time to shop? Macy's has a solution. Stores nationwide will be open around the clock from 7 a.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Sunday. Many gift ideas will be available at Macy's "one day sale" prices, which will end Sunday morning. Throughout the store, gift ideas for less than $100, $50 and $25 will be spotlighted.

H&M to introduce global clothing recycling initiative: The Swedish global retailer will roll out in February a clothes collecting initiative that will invite consumers to turn in used apparel to stores in all of its markets. H&M has partnered with I:Collect, which will reprocess the fabrics for future use. Clothing of all brands from any store in any condition will be accepted.
Whole Foods recognized for safe personal care products: A retailer report from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics names Whole Foods Market as the highest ranked retailer for personal care product safety. The campaign praises the chain for "a rigorous and transparent approach to screening the personal care products it sells."
"No other national retailer comes close to rivaling Whole Foods Market's leadership in the realm of safer personal care products," the report says.
Whole Foods announced in 2008 its Premium Body Care standards, a first by a major U.S. retail chain. It carries more than 3,800 personal care products that meet these standards. Learn more at www.wholefoodsmarket.com.
Levi's vows to ban toxic fashions by 2020: The denim retailer is the latest brand to pledge to rid the release of hazardous chemicals from its supply chain and products by 2020, based on findings of a Greenpeace International investigation. It uncovered in Mexico two major clothing manufacturing facilities dumping industrial wastewater containing hazardous and toxic chemicals that could be harmful to reproductive systems and aquatic life. Other brands linked to the manufacturing sites included Calvin Klein, Guess, Gap, Walmart and LVMH.
