Longtime bar will make way for sister location of Turkish restaurant near the corner of Forbes and Braddock avenues.
A Taste of Italy
Learn how to cook and pair wines through live demonstrations, and then dine on the finished products, including grilled jumbo prawns wrapped with pancetta and basil, wild mushroom souffle with saffron cream sauce, scallop bake with grilled fennel and more. Dive Bar & Grille opens
Dive Bar & Grille opened in Lawrenceville on Saturday at 5147 Butler St. in the space that was formerly Alchemy N' Ale. Dive Bar is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. The kitchen closes nightly at midnight.
The new restaurant is a sibling to the three-year-old Perry Highway location in Wexford. Co-owners Gordon Judge and Clint Kuskie are veterans of Bar Louie in Station Square and the Waterfront, where they met 10 years ago.
Happy hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 to 11 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, when Mr. Judge said the restaurant will offer "aggressive discounts," such as $1 off specialty drinks, half-priced menu items and $6 Belgian beers.
Turkish eatery to open soon
Istanbul Sofra is opening in the former Alma space at 7600 Forbes Ave. in Regent Square.
The menu for now features Middle Eastern standbys as well as borek and doner kebab. The restaurant has updated its menu several times but appears not to be open. Signs on the door read "opening soon" and they're not answering the phone.
Steel Cactus to add site
Steel Cactus will open a second location of the taco restaurant in the South Side by June. It's part of the portfolio from AMPD, the group behind Ten Penny, which opened Downtown in December, and Skybar, which opened in June.
Il Tetto to open in April
Il Tetto, the rooftop beer garden that's a part of Sienna Mercato, has been hiring via Craigslist and is tentatively shooting for an April 21 opening. "Definitely in April," said a spokesperson. A retractable roof will allow for year-round use of the 150-seat restaurant. The menu will feature a short list of pickles, wood-fired oysters, charcuterie, cheese and carpaccio. The middle floor, Mezzo, will open in July.
A'Pizza Badamo expands
A'Pizza Badamo will open its expansion in Mt. Lebanon in about a week, confirmed owner Anthony Badamo. The renovation includes an expanded kitchen with windows, so passers-by can watch as pizzas are made. "You can watch guys spinning pies," he said.
St. Kings opens in Strip
Last week, St. Kings opened in the 2500 block of Penn Ave. in the Strip, a bar with an outdoor deck and grill. The menu is nachos, wings, burgers, fish and chips and po' boys, but will move toward Southern-inspired dishes as the kitchen gets its legs, confirmed general manager Shorty Hill.
