By the time summer rolls around, we're as far away as we get from Christmas brews.
But some beer bars have the foresight to stash away some of the holiday goodies and bring them out now. The Bocktown Beer & Grill locations in North Fayette and near Monaca are celebrating "Christmas in July" by bringing out of their respective beer libraries several holiday favorites from 2011. Today, they'll start pouring Sly Fox Christmas Ale; on July 19, they'll start Rogue Santa's Private Reserve in Monaca and Thirsty Dog 12 Dogs of Christmas as well as Delirium Noel in North Fayette; and on July 26, they'll start Troeg's Mad Elf in Monaca and Church Brew Works Christmas as well as East End Snow Melt in North Fayette, where, on July 25, they'll do a tasting of Penn Brewery St. Nikolaus Bock.
Just over the border in Boardman, Ohio, Vintage Estate Wine and Beer will be celebrating its Christmas in July by tapping different Christmas beers daily from July 20 to 25 (vewinebeer.com).
It seems an unlikely place, and yet Aug. 25 will be the third Beer Garden Bash fundraiser at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. From 6 to 8 p.m. that Saturday, more than a dozen ales and lagers will be served along with soft pretzels and other snacks in the library's courtyard. Tickets are $20 at the library and include a show by Classical Revolution Pittsburgh titled "Chamber Music on Tap," whose leader Gino Faraci says, "By taking chamber music out of the recital hall and making it more accessible to an audience who would not otherwise hear such music live, we hope a broader public will appreciate chamber music's relevance."
