For those who believe Tea Party Republicans have been acting appropriately, what if the shoe were on the other foot? If Republicans were in control of the government, what would prevent Democrats from shutting down the government every time there is a cut to Head Start, Obamacare, Medicare, etc.?
Tea Party extremists say they would be happy to keep the government shut down -- that we don't need government (except for national parks and monuments). But what if the government shutdown/debt ceiling crisis tactic were used by those opposed to the next war? By listening to the Tea Party, Republicans have set a very dangerous precedent.
Do we really want our government to move from one self-inflicted crisis to another every three to four months? Do we want legislation/election losers of either party to hold our 401(k)s hostage? We must protect our traditional, two-party system of government (which negotiates, meets in the middle and respects election outcomes) by voting out extremists who, heedless of consequences, attempt to force their minority will on the majority of citizens.
