How much more outrageous does the behavior of the Tea Partiers have to get before courageous Republicans (if there are any left) speak out against stuff like the blatantly racist demonstrations during which the Confederate flag was waved in front of the White House? The Republicans seem to think that focus groups and a little bit of time will repair any kind of damage because, hey, people are that gullible. With their Southern Strategy they have been pandering to racists ever since Republican propagandists reminded them that there are more racists who vote than there are black people who vote.
Earlier in the shutdown, I tried to call people like Sen. Pat Toomey and Rep. Tim Murphy and force their staffs to explain their silence. I don't care how many sociopaths are threatening to show up at the polls and oust them in primaries, and how much they think they must protect their turf. People are going to remember how they first encouraged and then endorsed this behavior, first with their pandering and again with their silence.
