Regarding privatization of state liquor stores: Want even more ammo to privatize? I went twice in three weeks in late August and early September to the Pennsylvania state booze shop at Fourth and Smithfield Downtown to beg for Angostura bitters in the 4-ounce bottle. Nope, they assured me, "We only supply 10-ounce bottles."
I argued, "That's too big for suitcase travel" to locations ignorant of how to mix a Manhattan cocktail. One clerk even assured me the 4-ounce size is not supplied anymore.
Sept. 14: I arrived in Lawrenceville, N.J., at Joe's Canal Discount Liquor Outlet and asked for 4-ounce bitters. "We'll get it tomorrow after 2 p.m. for you," they told me. Sure enough, I bought three at $15.98 each just to show it's worth Pennsylvania dealers stocking -- more expensive than many bottles of liquor.
Any chance of a state store reacting like that?
