Two Sundays ago was a busy day for Downtown, and many people, including my mom and I, decided to take the T into the city. As we boarded the T from the Mt. Lebanon station I went to swipe my Connect Card, but was batted away by our T driver, saying "It's broken, just board" -- $5 lost.
As we departed on our outbound trip home we were informed to pay the station attendant on the Mt. Lebanon platform. Trouble was, there was no station attendant. Total loss for the Port Authority was $10. While this doesn't seem like much, when you add up all riders on our trains, this is a substantial loss.
While the Port Authority cites a lack of funding and declining ridership as a problem, I wonder how accurate these claims are when riders who are willing to pay are given multiple free rides.
