Retirement has its benefits -- relaxation and the time to peruse the newspaper, including the local obituaries. The phenomenon that I have noticed recently is the portrayal of the deceased in extremely youthful photographs. Many times I have seen a photo of what I believed was a very young person, struck down in the prime of his life, then to my astonishment it was actually "Old Elmer" with whom I did the daily "mall walk."
People, please tell your family to find a flattering yet age-appropriate photo for your obituary. Otherwise the next time I see a photo of you with a dark, full head of hair and supple skin, I may not know you have gone.
