The recent storm of outrage over the treatment of adjunct faculty by the administration at Duquesne University prompts us to state that the Association of Pittsburgh Priests strongly supports the efforts of the adjunct professors at Duquesne to obtain a living wage and exercise their right to organize.

We believe that it is appropriate and necessary to question and challenge Duquesne University's assertion that it deserves a "religious exemption" from the sanction and procedures of U.S. labor law in order to block adjunct teaching faculty's ability to organize, form a union and collectively bargain.

The association's full statement issued in September 2012 in support of the adjuncts can be found at and a copy can be obtained by contacting the Association of Pittsburgh Priests at

This letter was submitted on behalf of the members of the steering committee of the Association of Pittsburgh Priests.
