It was very interesting to see the article about The Bay Psalm Book, which was the first book printed here in America ("$30,000,000: Does America's First Book Rate That High a Price Tag?" Sept. 18). What a treasure to be preserved! At that time only the psalms of the Bible were used for praise in public worship, and they were sung without instrumental accompaniment.
This practice has continued in Reformed Presbyterian churches today where they use a psalm book with an up-to-date version of all 150 psalms with current tunes, many of them well-known. They continue to sing the psalms exclusively in worship without instrumental accompaniment.
